The Jacobs Creek estate demonstrates a rich winemaking history of the Gramp & Sons wine company. They were Bavarian immigrants, and to get the taste of their homeland, they decided to cultivate the grape varieties of their country.

In 2011 Jacob’s Creek wine celebrated its 35th birthday. In 1973 Jacob’s Creek introduced its first blend, Shiraz Cabernet and Malbec, sold in the name of Claret which an Orlando wine company launched in 1976. History of Jacob’s Creek

Johann Gramp

The history of Jacob’s Creek can be recalled from 1847 when Johann Gramp started cultivating wine grapes on a 30-hectare land. This land was located on the sides of Jacob’s Creek, and this was the first commercial grape-growing land of Barossa.

In 1850 Johann Gramp founded a small winery and underground cellar for making wine. Then Gustav, son of Johann, changed the winery’s location to its current location, which is at Rowland Flat, 2kms from the vineyard of Johann’s. Johann’s great-grandson Collin Gramp started to engage modern techniques in 1953 for producing new Australian wine varieties.

Collin also located a new land for a vineyard On Barossa Ranges for cultivating Riesling vines. This gradually paved the way for crafting the Steingarten Wines. In 1947 this winery celebrated the platinum jubilee of winemaking, and to commemorate this, they have planted a mulberry tree. For celebrating the 150th year of wine production, they have produced new Riesling grapes on their original vineyard site.

Jacob’s Creek’s wine brand was officially launched in 1973 when the owners introduced a blend of Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet, sauvignon, and Malbec grapes. In 1984 the brand started to market its product worldwide and exported the wine to the UK for the first time. Jacobs Creek is famous for its Sparkling wine, and the first Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir was launched in 1988. This brand is now the creator of some premium quality Australian wine with the Reserve Range and Cool Harvest wine series.
