Wine Review – Rawsons Retreat Merlot 2017

Rawson’s Retreat from South Australia
This 2017 vintage wine is a full-bodied #red from south-east Australia
Pretty decent compared to price. Dark ruby color #wine comes from the hot climate merlot of South Australia. Good fruit extract added a good texture.
Pour and swirl on the glass wall creates significant legs to showcase the boldness like someone is warning you. Sophisticatedly strong smell reflects the same behavior.

Sip in and witness the rare good combination of strong body and medium acid with softened tannins. Dominant flavors of dark and ripped plum and black cherries with clearly oak-aged vanilla. This one also has a medium to strong earth with a hint of tobacco.
Very dry but lower to medium tannins make it a little smoother yet a non-novice wine. Perfect choice for someone who loves a non-expensive yet rich and worthy wine. The finish is again lasting and reminds the boldness.
The fun part recommended pairing is of course congruent with fat and heavy sauce red meat but the acidic part of it gives liberty to have an opposite pair with experimental garlic-based shrimps & heavy dressing salads
